Wassenaar municipality works to strengthen social resilience
Between November 2025 and January 2026, every resident of Wassenaar will receive an information booklet on how to prepare yourself for emergencies, such as a prolonged power outage. The booklet is being distributed nationwide by the national government and is part of the Think Ahead campaign. The municipality of Wassenaar joins in and is working on a local approach to support residents as best as possible. On www.wassenaar.nl/weerbaarheid you can find all information together.
72-hour power outage
The municipality is preparing for situations where power is out for longer than 72 hours. Geopolitical tensions, climate change and digital threats increase the likelihood of such disruptions. Therefore, the municipality is committed to cooperation with social organizations in Wassenaar, such as neighborhood associations, schools, volunteer organizations and the Wassenaar Rescue Brigade. Together they are looking at how they can support residents where necessary. The municipality is also investigating which locations are suitable as emergency support points. These are places where residents can get information and help during a crisis.
Information booklet in multiple languages
The information booklet you will soon receive can also be read online. The digital version is at www.denkvooruit.nl/informatieboekje. Beginning Nov. 25, the booklet will additionally be available in multiple languages at www.denkvooruit.nl/vertalingen. Among others, it will appear in English, German, Polish, French, Arabic, Turkish, Chinese and Spanish. There are also versions in Dutch Sign Language and in easy language so that as many residents as possible can easily understand the information.
Mayor Leendert de Lange: "Resilience is something you make together. As a municipality, we are committed to preparing Wassenaar well for long-term disruptions. We do this not only by making plans, but especially by staying connected with each other. Look out for each other, help where you can and talk about it. In this way we ensure together that Wassenaar remains strong, even at times when things get tense."
